The label is inspired by Zephyra, the Greek goddess of the gentle west wind who blows Pacific breezes through the Van Duzer Corridor over the Van Duzer family estate vineyards. Fruit from an early pick provided the crisp backbone of this blend, while a later pick contributed aromatic complexity. Four different yeasts were used to highlight floral aromas and refine texture. After a very slow and cold fermentation in tall, narrow tanks (called cigar tanks) to preserve the crisp minerality, the wine was aged on the lees to add a subtle creaminess.
Tasting Notes: On the nose, the powerful bouquet displays many layers of tree fruit, ranging from white peach to Asian pear, while tropical mango and pineapple are laced with subtle hints of lemon grass, orange blossom and jasmine flower. Underlying flinty notes are intertwined with fragrances of freshly cracked hazelnuts. A crisp, concentrated entry transitions to a bright, generous and citrus-driven mid palate. Stone fruit and flint characteristics highlight the lengthy finish, showcasing layers of minerality and roasted almonds.
